The Eminent Associates was established in 1965 and recently celebrated 50 years of providing financial support to Tuskegee University. Specific objectives includes developing sustained interest and substantial support to Tuskegee, providing a medium for meaningful participation in matters of major interest and providing an organized medium where alumni and friends can be recognized for their significant contributions to the University.
The Membership totals more than 750 alumni and friends and is restricted to individuals only. No local Tuskegee Cubs or organizations are eligible. There are five categories of membership available with the option to move from one category to another. The beginning category is the Associates moving to the Presidential Associate to the Silver Presidential Associate to the Gold Presidential Associate and finally to The Founder’s Circle Category. There are specific annual contributions for each category.
In order to become a member, the Eminent Associates Pledge Form must be signed and the initial amount of $1,000 must be paid in full.
Over the past 50 years, Associates have contributed over 21 million dollars to Mother Tuskegee. During the fiscal year of July 2014 to June 2015, $894,236 was contributed by the Eminent Associates. It is anticipated that over a million dollars will be contributed from July 2015 to June 2016.
Contributions are usually given on an unrestricted basis and placed in the General Fund of the University. However, contributions may be given on a restricted basis. All contributions, restricted or unrestricted are counted toward the Associates annual contribution requirement. Contributions maybe be made Online or the Pledge Form maybe be completed and mail to the Office of Advancement and Development at Tuskegee University.
The annual meeting of the Eminent Associates is held during Fall Convocation at Tuskegee.
The Officers of the Associates are: Chairman-Solomon L. Banks, Jr.; Vice Chairman-Lula Whigham-Marable; Secretary-Jocelyn Faniel-Heard and Historian-Sarah Stringer.
